FRANKENSTORM: From Across the East River is an experimental short documentary capturing the night Hurricane Sandy struck New York City, culminating in the devastating Con Edison explosion that plunged half of Manhattan into darkness. Filmed along the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn, the work observes the surreal mix of awe and dread as crowds gathered to watch the storm’s approach.
Footage from the film has been featured worldwide—on The History Channel, BBC, National Geographic, PBS NOVA, The Discovery Channel, Disney, The Weather Channel, Associated Press, and NBC, among others. It has also appeared in Werner Herzog’s Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World, the Hollywood feature The Tomorrow War, and numerous relief initiatives by NYC nonprofits.
The film, along with several printed stills, is part of the permanent collection at The Museum of the City of New York in RISING WATERS - Photographs of Sandy
